Some science teachers, teacher- educators of science and scientists of West Bengal were attached to AISTA since the birth of the organization. When10+2+3 structure of education was introduced in India, they felt need of a state unit for better working. The state unit started its run as All India Science Teachers' Association, West Bengal Branch (AISTA, WB Branch) in1976. The state unit took up different activities in the schools of WB. At this time the science educationists across India started to feel the need of an aptitude test to evaluate the overall preparation of the students of schools to pursue higher education in science and technology, in a written form with the help of MCQ (multiple choice type questions) with proper standardization. AISTA, WB Branch came forward to develop Science Aptitude and Talent Search Test (SATST) based on this strategy. SATST is the first of its kind in West Bengal and hopefully it is still now unique, when considered its quality of questions, result format and follow up pattern.
Since the early years of the present century, AISTA, WB Branch felt need to register the organization separately under the state laws & regulations. Finally, in 2012, a new organization emerged under the state laws in the name, All India Science Teachers' Association, West Bengal (AISTA, WB). All the life members and ordinary members of the erstwhile organization were granted membership accordingly in the new organization. The President, Secretary and other portfolio holders also remained unchanged. Assets and liabilities of the earlier state unit were transferred to AISTA, WB. Since then our activities in the state are carried out in the banner of AISTA, WB. However, this unit (in new dress) has remained within the parent unit AISTA, with close and unchanged association as before. AISTA, WB introduced Preparatory Test for Entrance Examination (PTEE) for students of classes XI & XII from 2007. Of late we started a new test to help students of classes VII &VIII aspiring for participating in Olympiads in future. This test was developed with focus to All India syllabi (CBSE in particular) and it was called Preparatory Test for Science Olympiad since 2017. In 2020, the name of the test has been changed to Science Pre- Olympiad.
